![]() Since the emergence of SARS-COV-2 in 2019, two mRNA vaccines, Moderna mRNA-1273 and Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2, were developed most rapidly and proved to be most efficacious 3, 4, 5. New vaccines that can be manufactured rapidly and stored without complex cold-chain requirements and result in long-term, robust, multi-variant immunity are urgently needed to protect people across the globe against SARS-CoV-2. Although multiple SARS-CoV-2 vaccines have been developed and over 12 billion SARS-CoV-2 vaccine doses have been administered globally 1, only 21% of people in low-income countries have received a dose 2. ![]() More than 609 million confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and 6.5 million related deaths have occurred worldwide due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) as of September 2022 1. Taken together, this saRNA delivered by NLC represents a potential improvement in RNA technology that could allow wider access to RNA vaccines for the current COVID-19 and future pandemics. Notably, the saRNA/NLC platform demonstrated thermostability when stored lyophilized at room temperature for at least 6 months and at refrigerated temperatures for at least 10 months. Robust Th1-biased T-cell responses were also observed after prime or homologous prime-boost in mice. In preclinical studies, this saRNA/NLC vaccine induced strong humoral immunity, as demonstrated by high pseudovirus neutralization titers to the Alpha, Beta, and Delta variants of concern and induction of bone marrow-resident antibody-secreting cells. ![]() This saRNA vaccine is formulated with a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC), providing stability, ease of manufacturing, and protection against degradation. We have developed an easily-manufactured, potent self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 that is stable at room temperature. However, limitations in these vaccines have been recognized due to their requirement for cold storage, short durability of protection, and lack of access in low-resource regions. MRNA vaccines were the first to be authorized for use against SARS-CoV-2 and have since demonstrated high efficacy against serious illness and death. ![]()

This is what allows you to recognize a note, a song on the radio, a particular person's voice, or other sounds you may encounter on a regular basis. Some sounds, like in the case of musical echoic memory training, are remembered or encoded into the short-term or long-term memory as a perfect replica. There, echoic memory stores remain for an average of four seconds before being discarded or moved to the short-term memory banks of the hippocampus. Parts Of The Brain For Echoic MemoryĪuditory stimuli are received by the fine hairs within your ear and transmitted to the primary auditory cortex (PAC) in the temporal lobe of the brain as electrical signals. From this point, the information will either be discarded or encoded into long-term memory. ![]() If the sound you heard has context that makes it seem important, the brain will move that information to your short-term memory stores, where it will remain for around 20 minutes. Within the short time that echoic memory retains the memory, the brain either discards or keeps it. ![]() This is echoic memory at work, allowing you to process the sound of the question without paying attention to it. This happens whether you are paying attention to the spoken language around you or not.Ī common example is when you are absorbed in a book and someone asks you a question, your first response might be, “What did you say?” But almost as soon as you ask or even before you finish saying it, you realize that you do know what they said. During that brief time, your mind creates and keeps an exact copy of the sound that you heard, such that if you were in a quiet room, you could still “hear” the sound after it has stopped. When you hear a sound, your ears transmit that actual sound to the brain via the auditory nerve, and it is stored by echoic memory for an average of two to four seconds. It is only when the brain relegates that memory to short-term and then long-term memory that you can recall or recognize them later. Echoic memory only refers to the ultra-short-term memory of sounds. However, the ability to recall or recognize these sounds is actually part of your long-term memory. Many people think of echoic memory as memories of specific sounds, such as songs or birds. There has been substantial research on these two types of sensory memory, and much is now known about its duration and how it works to create new long-term memories. Of the five senses, the two most researched types of sensory memory are iconic (visual) and echoic (auditory). Since you’re not usually storing hundreds of gigabytes, these services are all free (though they all have “pro” options with more storage). If you’ve only got a few documents you need to keep backed up and don’t want to waste space backing up your entire drive, you can keep your important documents in cloud storage. In addition to backing up your files automatically, every time you change a file, Time Machine stores those changes on your external drive. On macOS, nothing beats the simplicity of Apple’s built-in Time Machine. While you can certainly just drag your files over to an external hard drive, it’s better to use an app to do it automatically. You’ll probably want a hard drive at least twice the size of your main hard drive, and you can find large 4 TB external drives for around $100. It’s quick and easy to restore files from your external hard drive and you have the cloud backup as a…well…backup in case something happens to your external drive. We actually recommend combining this method with an online backup to cover your bases. Now that you have an overall feel for the editing controls you probably can't wait to dive down into them and get to work. And if you like keyboard shortcuts the shortcut for that is Shift R. And then if you want to revert everything back to the very beginning you can come over to the three-dot menu, the more menu and from there you can choose Revert to Original. And you can keep going backwards in time that way and you also can move forwards in time with the Redo command or you can use the keyboard shortcuts: Command Z on a Mac or Control Z on a Windows machine for Undo and Redo is Shift Command Z on a Mac, Shift Control Z on Windows. So here I'm undoing that adjustment I've made to the Shadows slider. It tells you exactly what you're undoing which is the last slider move that you made. If you go up to the Edit menu you can choose Undo there. And of course, it's always important to know how to undo. And then click again and there's the after view with your edits. And that shows you the original, the before view. ![]() If you want to do that come down to the Toolbar and click this icon. I find it really helpful when I'm editing to compare a before and after view. And then press Enter or Return on the keyboard. If you hold the Shift key that adjusts in larger increments. ![]() So, in that case you can click in the value field for a slider and then you can use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to adjust the slider in small increments. But sometimes you may want to have more control over these sliders. Now you could just drag sliders and you can see that the image automatically changes. Let's go up and open the Light panel and here we have sliders as our controls. So, notice that if I click on another panel the Light panel closes and the Color panel opens. What this does is just keep one panel open at a time and this can be helpful when you're working on a smaller screen. I call this the more menu and from there choose Single-Panel Mode. And the other thing I like to do is to come over to this menu with the three dots. To collapse the filmstrip come down to this icon in the Toolbar and click. I usually will collapse this filmstrip at the bottom that shows you all the other photos in the selected source. So now we're worried about how I set up my workspace here. So, if I have a photo with a really bad color cast I might first come here to the White Balance tools and correct that. So, after I apply the Crop tool if I need to I usually come to the column of global editing tools and I'll just start at the top because it's easy to do it that way and use the controls that I think I need on my photo adjusting the lighting and then adjusting the color and then going down to some other panels if I need to. And then below that are some local editing tools, tools for editing just part of a photo. And by the way if I do need to crop a photo that's usually what I do first so that I don't waste time editing areas that I'm going to crop away anyway. And then over on the right, there is a Crop tool. You have controls for adjusting Light and Color and if you scroll down you see that you have panels of other controls too to explore. The controls in the column that just opened are the global controls. Here you've got lots of controls to work with. To edit a photo select it here in the grid and then come over to the far right and click the Editing icon. I'll leave all of these photos checked and come up to the top right and click the Add Photos button. I'll call this album Tut 2 and then I'll click Create. In the preview window that opens there's really only one thing to do and that is to go up to the Add to Album area and click the arrow there and click New, so you can create an album for these sample files, so you can easily access them as a group in Lightroom. Select the 2_sample_files folder and then click the Review for Import button on a Mac or the Choose Folder button on Windows. Navigate to the sample files for this tutorial, tutorial number two in this get started series. To remind you download the sample files from the tutorial page and then click the Add Photos button in Lightroom. If you're following along with the sample files for this tutorial or with your own photos add those to Lightroom as explained in the first tutorial in this series. This lesson is an overview of the editing controls and techniques in Lightroom. They're both powerful in terms of what they let you do and at the same time they're presented in a streamlined way that makes them simple to discover and to use. And the editing controls in Lightroom are designed to help you do just that. One of the most exciting things that you can do in Lightroom is to use it to improve your photographs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Stock Photographs by adistock 3 / 235 house floor plan blueprint Stock Photo by PixelsAway 22 / 762 house blueprint background Stock Images by stiven 1 / 92 Blueprint for success Stock Images by svanhorn 35 / 202 Engineering Blueprint Background Stock Image by kentoh 0 / 0 Architecture blueprint background. ![]() Vector blueprint Stock Photography by emaria 33 / 1,384 Gears blueprint background. Scanning teaches us to hear poems better (with the soul's ear and/or the body's ear) and is an inimitable way to appreciate poems by others on a profound level. Notating the rhythm can force us to make crucial choices about the poem's music and meaning and their effect on us. Scanning a poem is a way of listening extremely closely to a poem's rhythm and marking what we hear. A good metrical poem "scans," meaning that its meter follows the rules-and also, we "scan" a poem when we mark its meter. "To scan" is both an intransitive and a transitive verb.
